The Market in Tzfat – Kayla Turnof

Today we went to Tzfat and were able to walk around with our friends in the market.  It was amazing to be able to see authentic Israeli products and converse with the people who sold them.  I had the opportunity to purchase a handmade mezuzah for my bedroom back home. It is marbled pink glass with a jewel towards the top of the piece.  I am blessed to be able to have a piece of Israel to bring home with me so I can remember this trip for my whole life, Now, every time I look at the mezuzah on the upper right-hand side of my bedroom door, I will remember the friends I made and how I became more connected to my Judaism while being the country.

After buying the mezuzah, I wandered around the area with my friends.  Then, we went to get slushies and ice cream and sat down in a shady area filled with luscious trees.  Together, we observed the people who lived in the area. It was a way for us to see what the culture was like in that part of Israel.  I saw the religiosity of the neighborhood, clothing people were wearing, and the foods they were eating, This was a great experience, which makes me feel thrilled to explore the rest of the country.
